ON APRIL 28, 2001 every
racers worse nightmare became a reality for me @ NEW ENGLAND DRAGWAY in
Epping New Hampshire. While testing a 250 hit of nitrous for an upcoming
quick 8 event @ English town Nj I Lost water around the 1000' mark
well up around the 165 MPH range. I saw a spray up the windshield and before
I could pull the handle and drop the laundry the Vega came around sideways
and barrel rolled trapping 8.39 @ 132 mph, went from the left lane across
the right lane , I struck the wall upside down and backwards and the back
of the car dug into the pavement catapulting me end over end down the right
lane. The car ended off the track surface and continued doing so down the
return road area. When all was said and done I had covered nearly a 1/4
mile of gut wrenching twisting and crashing scattering debre the whole
way.
My survival in this
horrible crash is a testament to EXCELLENT emergency response by the staff
of NEDW and impenetrable chassis work and design. I suffered a broken nose,
broken eye socket , several broken ribs and tore my left knee cap off.
As of this update on my web page OCT. 20,2001 I have recovered nearly 100%
and have returned to normal activities with only minor problems climbing
stairs because of the knee surgery. Id like to thank the EPPING FIRE DEPT.
for their quick work with the JAWS OF LIFE and the staffs of NEDW as well
as EXETER MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. (D.R.A.W) Drag Racing Association of Woman
for their help and support through this tough time for my wife and family.
Below I have posted
the last time slip from the VEGA that I loved so much as well as
some of my favorite pictures from tracks across the country. I have also
put a LINK to RPM WORLDS web page where video of the LAST PASS can
be downloaded and viewed. Naturally being a GO FAST guy at heart I have
embarked on another project. This time with a lil more wheel base and a
new angle on making power. I am outfitting the camaro with a 468 CI
8-71 blown gasoline engine and at the wife's orders will be slowing the
car down to the low to mid 9s. The car is all steel except glass
hood and it will do double duty as track work horse and street warrior
for the local cruise nights.
I want to remind
everyone that safety regulations are there for OUR benefit and every penny
you spent will come back to you 10 FOLD. JUST ask my three little ones
who have dad here a little longer because of well spent SAFETY MONEY!!!!!!!

Went out to the track nearby, never thought
in a million years
we would see as many Vega's as we did. Out
of the 50+ cars there,
8 of them were Vega's. The top 3 fastest cars
were Vega's.
9:24 - 1972 Blue hatchback
9:50 - 1972 White hatchback
10:10 - 1974 Pink Kammback

About seven years ago, I had a V8 vega that I sent to a shop.
And after spending $30,000, they picked up shop and split with my car. It
has taken me seven years and I finally found him this week. They call him
Fast Ray, his new shop is in Torrance, Ca. I called the police and they said to bad.
If you know of a way to get it back, please let me know.
Vega World is looking for some true vega fans out there. We are planning
